African Union Ambassador Visits the Liberian Consulate in Minnesota

The African Union Permanent Representative to the United States, Ambassador Arikana Chihombori Quao paid a courtesy visit at the Liberian Consulate in Minnesota after a luncheon hosted by the African Development Center of Minnesota (ADC).  The African Union Representational Mission to the United States and the AU Commission’s Directorate of Citizens and Diaspora Organizations (CIDO) invited members of the African Diaspora community in Minnesota to its inaugural AU Diaspora Luncheon.

Hon. George took the Ambassador on a tour of the Consulate and inform the Ambassador of the Consulate activities in Minnesota. Hon. George informed the Ambassador that there are only two African Consulates out of the over 25 Consulates in Minnesota (Liberia and South Africa) and urged the Ambassador for more African consulates representations in the Midwest. The discussion centered on the Deferred Enforced Departure that expire on March 31st, African diaspora engagement with the continent and investments in Africa.

CIDO is the focal department of the AU Commission for diaspora affairs and the coordination hub of AU Diaspora initiatives. CIDO works to support diaspora-for-development (D4D) priorities by building the capacity of African government departments responsible for diaspora engagement. CIDO also works to establish with Diaspora organizations and networks that help identify, train and deploy Diaspora professionals, skilled women and youth to offers services that promote economic development on the African continent.
